Real jobs: the problem, what was built, the result.

Every case study here is a machine that shipped. Customers are named only where they have agreed to be.

Case study one

The glass cab operating panel: $1,000 to $350 at 2,500 units.

The problem

A residential elevator manufacturer, a Phoenix customer for close to twenty years, needed a new cab operating panel for its next cab: all glass, an integrated display, and a phone mounted on the back because the code requires one. Revision one came in near $1,000 a unit. The customer said it was too expensive, and it was.

What was built

Instead of losing the job, Phoenix took the target back to the factory: $350 to $400 a unit at a first quantity of 2,500. The part was redesigned for that machine and that price rather than pulled from a shelf. Same function, same glass front, same phone, on its second revision now.

The result

$350 per unit at 2,500 units, against $1,000 for revision one

One approved part, carried across the customer's cab lineup. That is what a design win looks like from the builder's side of the table.

More to come.

Packaging, water treatment and printing jobs are being written up in the same shape. If you want to know whether Phoenix has done a machine like yours, ask.
